Bridal Skin Prep Cheat Sheet

Let’s get glowing.

Your wedding day glow STARTS with good skincare and skin-prep. Here are some tried and true skincare tips for a flawless canvas under your makeup. This ins’t just for bridal makeup but any makeup!

#1. First things first. Avoid any NEW products a good 2-3 weeks before the big day. This even includes trying a different facial service. Keep things light & simple to avoid any sort of skin reaction. Stick with products your skin already LOVES. Getting a facial service is fine but ask for things like HYDRATING and gentle. Think less is more a couple weeks out.

#2. Gently exfoliate at least twice per week just for smooth skin in general not just for your wedding day! Gentle means avoiding any sort of harsh scrubs. Think liquid exfoliants like Aveda’s Botanical Kinetics Exfoliant or Paula’s Choice Liquid Exfoliant. These will gently remove dead skin cells and reveal a clearer & brighter complexion underneath.

#3 Consider a Dermaplaning Service a few weeks before if you have some surface hair on the face. It will also gently exfoliate the skin under that hair as well and will make your foundation look smoother and more blended when applied.

#4. Hydration is your best friend. This also means adequate water intake daily because this will make your skin glow from the inside out. Think extra hydration at night since this is when your skin is repairing itself. Gently layering hydrating products like Byoma’s Milky Toner or Mario Baduscu’s Facial Spray or under makeup even before your moisturizer will build up that hydration. You want a glowing skin under your makeup so that will shine through your makeup. Dry skin under makeup = cakey and dry makeup.

#5. Don’t skip sunscreen. This is so important because you still need to protect your skin on the big day, but don’t want flashback from high SPF sunscreens. This can cause a white cast to the skin and really POP [not in a good way] when photographed. My favorite is Supergoop’s Unseen Sunscreen SPF40. It’s an invisible formula and also doubles as a makeup primer.

#6. Skip waxing your brows the WEEK OF. This will gently exfoliate the skin around your brows, making it super challenging for any makeup to stick. Also just in the event you get super red or irritated, a week should be enough time for that to calm down.

#7. Last but not least. SLEEP! It really shows when you aren’t getting adequate sleep and rest. This will help with under-eye darkness, glowing skin and literally everything!
